Health Care Peer Review

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

The concurrent or retrospective review by practicing physicians or other health professionals of the quality and efficiency of patient care practices or services ordered or performed by other physicians or other health professionals (From The Facts On File Dictionary of Health Care Management, 1988).

Health Care Need Certification

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

A certificate issued by a governmental body to an individual or organization proposing to construct or modify a health facility, or to offer a new or different service. The process of issuing the certificate is also included.

Health Administration United States Occupational Safety

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

An office in the Department of Labor responsible for developing and establishing occupational safety and health standards.

H+ Pump

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

Integral membrane proteins that transport protons across a membrane. This transport can be linked to the hydrolysis of ADENOSINE TRIPHOSPHATE.

H Reflex

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

A monosynaptic reflex elicited by stimulating a nerve, particularly the tibial nerve, with an electric shock.

Head Penetrating Missile Injuries

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

Head injuries which feature compromise of the skull and dura mater. These may result from gunshot wounds (WOUNDS, GUNSHOT), stab wounds (WOUNDS, STAB), and other forms of trauma.

H3 Receptors

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

A class of histamine receptors discriminated by their pharmacology and mode of action. Histamine H3 receptors were first recognized as inhibitory autoreceptors on histamine-containing nerve terminals and have since been shown to regulate the release of several neurotransmitters in the central and peripheral nervous systems. (From Biochem Soc Trans 1992 Feb;20(1):122-5)

H2 Receptors

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

A class of histamine receptors discriminated by their pharmacology and mode of action. Histamine H2 receptors act via G-proteins to stimulate adenylate cylase. Among the many responses mediated by these receptors are gastric acid secretion, smooth muscle relaxation, inotropic and chronotropic effects on heart muscle, and inhibition of lymphocyte function. (From Biochem Soc Trans 1992 Feb;20(1):122-5)

H1 Receptors

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

A class of histamine receptors discriminated by their pharmacology and mode of action. Most histamine H1 receptors operate through the inositol phosphate/diacylglycerol second messenger system. Among the many responses mediated by these receptors are smooth muscle contraction, increased vascular permeability, hormone release, and cerebral glyconeogenesis. (From Biochem Soc Trans 1992 Feb;20(1):122-5)

H+-Pi Symporter

Posted on July 24, 2011 |

Proteins that cotransport hydrogen ions and phosphate ions across cellular membranes.
